They have to dress themselves. You’re not going to tell me there’s a stylist at CNN taking scarves off and buying leather jackets for people. But there should be. They look fucking ridiculous.

They have to dress themselves. You’re not going to tell me there’s a stylist at CNN taking scarves off and buying leather jackets for people. But there should be. They look fucking ridiculous. If there’s a field where stylists should play a big part, how about a job where people have to look at you and your shirt while you read the news? 50% of you on TV is what you’re wearing. Can an expert not step in and prevent grannies from dressing like bikers and black men from dressing like grannies?

more to the point: who watches CNN?
your mom
good juan!
I work in television news and these guys do have stylists. But it’s weird. It’s not like they have stylists all the time. For example if a show relaunches or gets a new look so will the reporters. They get taken shopping. They are given rules and a set colour palate to chose from. This is weird because it’s kind of like only going shopping when you have a wedding shower to go to, then making those outfits last a couple years. Of course they can go off and buy other clothes but they only really think about that shit once and a while.
The other important thing to remember is that 99.9% of reporters/anchors are total nerds. They literally yell out things across a newsroom like “You can’t USE facebook on a cellphone!” So their taste is terrible.
When you get out of the network realm and down to the local level some anchors have clothes sponsors. That means they have to pick their clothes from whatever store at the mall is willing to trade weird blazers for ad space at the end of the show. It’s obviously a bad deal for everyone involved.
PS – If you think CNN looks bad ask Beckles or Gavin what Canadian news looks like.
Nick
Nick should have written this post.
Nick is right, I looked at these and thought ‘not so bad!’
Canadian news is the worst, which is part of why I’m willfully ignorant.
my farts really smell today
i like it when news readers wear weird stuff. it’s futuristic or something.
That bitch in the top pic looks like a newscaster of the future in a sci-fi movie of the past.
i think you need more examples because two examples isn’t really enough if this was an essay i would request more sources.
the lady at the top is clearly going with the whole ‘Gestapo chic’ thing.

i imagine the canadian newscaster look will the the hottest shite of 2011. mark it 8.
worked in news too… like nick said, they dress themselves but choose from a stylist-approved wardrobe. and when i was at msnbc, a lot of them would go casual on the bottom since they sit behind a newsdesk. i remember ashleigh banfield wearing little mini-skirts.
oh yeah, she’s canadian.
She’s got the ‘Pinhead from Hellraiser’ style in effect
