Gaslight Anthem are a great pro-working class band but they do it in a soothing Bruce Springsteen way that doesn’t exactly make you want to kick down doors. Flatfoot 56 on the other hand, make you want to murder people. They are going to be at Knitting Factory this Friday night and we are all going to be there with bells on. And by bells we mean boots and braces.

The song “Courage” is about a WWII vet the singer used to work with. The old man was broke and not doing well so the band got together and fixed up his house. Then they fixed up all the old timer’s houses in the area. This isn’t fetishization. This is a history teacher from the South Side of Chicago who has a band and also has a lot of respect for the generation that “hit the beaches in the Second World War.”
Yeah, but their Eastern Canadian/Maritimes “roots” sound is a fetish, and it’s pretty gay.

Flatfoot56 is a great band. And if you don’t think so, then stop listening to their music and move on to whatever you DO like. Obviously there will be people who think what they do is shit, but the same goes for every other band. But most people who don’t like the way a band sounds, stops listening to that band and stops caring about that band.
So, let the people who like Flatfoot56 talk about how they like FF56, and go talk about how you like whatever band you like.
