Great article! I’m a student of Art in the Netherlands and I got the assignment to inquire a subculture; I choose MtG (also because I’m a casual gamer myself) and this article really helped me to get an image of the sub-culture. Cheers.

Thats me in the first picture, All I remember from this day was showing up in a mixture of drunk/high and the guy told me he was doing a piece for english, so I tried to tell him a story and all the story did was just ramble into tangets. I think we spent like 30 mins talking about absoutely nothing and me just continually going in circles talking about nothing for like 30 mins. lolol

Also, Im not sure what the fuck that vince kid is. He seems like a pedophile, which is cool… if you’re into that sort of thing…. erm… yeah…

I was there.. one of those pictures of people playing is actually one of my games :b
I can’t agree more with that last post by Chris.. many of the people that play are the stereotypical nerdy kids, but there are still a whole bunch that are just regular people. You would be surprised how many people have a bit a geeky side that they don’t show to the public, simply because they’re afraid of what people might think of them. Even the lot of you that are judging have to admit that you have a geeky/nerdy side in one way or the other. However, you won’t admit to it, but you will bask in the glory of whatever it is in private.
Look at most of the pro players.. you would never guess they play a card game from a picture. Either way, Magic is an awesome game.

Eh. Only thing I have to comment on is the some of the stereotypes. I think when you go there the kind of people are split in half, you have the one half that appear to be asexual nerdy hermits who haven’t bathed in a few weeks, but then the other half is just normal doods playing a game for fun, people you would run into at a party or chill with or whatever. Just normal people having fun, Dave could probably attest to that.

The one half gives a bad rep to the mtg community in general, just keep that in mind when you automatically thing “HE PLAYS MAGIC HE MUST SMELL LIKE ROTTING SQUID CARCASS IN AUGUST AND OBVIOUSLY HAS NEVER TOUCHED A WOMAN IN HIS LIFE” you’re not necessarily correct.

Though, sometimes you most definately are.
