Rape is fucking ghastly and awful whenever and wherever it occurs, but it’s pretty hyberbolic and dishonest of you to proclaim rape a “male phenomenon” because they are disproportionately victims of prison rape. No shit, guy. People also get shived in the shower 100000000 times more in prison than in, say, public park bathrooms. It’s an anomalous environment that engenders anomalous shit like male-on-male rape. So it would be more accurate to state that PRISON rape is a male phenomemon. I’m not saying this to be dismissive of its occurrence, or make like it’s not traumatizing and horrific for a man to have his body violated. Of course it is. But in the world outside of prison, where most civilians are not violent criminals, 98% of reported rape victims are female. Treating these sets of statistics as though they’re at all comparable is just bogus.
