Anyone who’s seen Mike Tyson fight is aware of the benefits a violent childhood can bring. You don’t have to condone kids getting beat up every day to enjoy seeing him in the ring. You don’t want your children to follow the same path but as far as Tyson’s shitty life goes, there’s no better job.
Not just anybody can step in the ring. Athletic commissions regulate boxing licenses and make sure things don’t get too gory. Tyson himself had his license rescinded in 1997 after biting off his opponent’s ear. This is the way it should be. Boxing is a violent sport that can do serious, permanent damage. I have never been the same after challenging a professional MMA fighter to a fight. I didn’t have the experience to handle the guy and ended up in the hospital with cerebral contusions. I’ll never do that again.
Pornography is exactly the same. I love watching porn stars like Ava Devine get violated but I’m well aware the odds of her having been sexual abused as a child are about 99.99%. Pornographic video jumped on the bandwagon and guys like Eon McKai (named after the singer of a punk band from the 80s) has convinced a whole new generation of girls porn isn’t porn. But it is porn. And porn is supposed to pay. Real porn stars hate hipster porn because they see it as rich kids devaluing the sex dollar for laughs. You’re not supposed to get $100 to have sex on camera. You’re supposed to get $1,500. These girls are stepping into the ring with Mike Tyson and getting knocked out for free again and again.
When the religious right rails against pornography and portrays it as male predators taking advantage of vulnerable women, I roll my eyes. Porn is simply victims of abuse making the best of a terrible situation. Porn producers aren’t predators. They’re entrepreneurs. However, Pat Robertson is correct when it comes to hipster porn. The men who make money off this new breed of porn star are exactly the predator the religious right say he is.
In my early 20s, I lived with two punk chicks (above) who were lazy and wanted a job where they didn’t have to leave the house. They chose phone sex. She told me her parents were totally cool with her doing pornography. I did my best to explain to her that her sexuality is actually very sacred and not something to be tossed around willy nilly. That’s why people pay so much for it. It has value. Lawsuits that include “violating a woman’s chastity” are a very big deal because the courts understand a woman unanimously seen as a slut is in for a lonely life. Now, if someone already took your chastity and threw it in the garbage, selling it isn’t such a big deal. She doesn’t fall into that category but I couldn’t convince her it mattered. “Take what’s left of your innocence and get out while you can” I pleaded with her, “This job will ruin your life.” The eponymous Baby looked at me like I just told her Dick Cheney is sexy. In about ten years, when she’s a lonely cougar, she’ll realize I was right but by then it will be too late.

That’s the thing about the Gavin McInnes paradigm. It’s so foreign to me in some ways that I usually don’t know where to begin in critiqueing it, even when I agree with some of the conclusions. I mean, yeah, I think acting in porn can be a damaging experience for those who aren’t ready for it. At the same time, I think mainstream porn is kind of an abomination. I’d much rather see it slowly eclipsed by porn where women have more control (They’re freaks too, so I don’t see the hotness level dropping).
And that’s without even addressing McInnes’s big oversight: The reason women have such a difficult time in the workforce today is because North America doesn’t provide universal daycare like Northern Europe does. It’s not a coincidence that Northern Europe has a healthy self-replacing population, high productivity, a vibrant export-driven economy and the largest proportion of women involved in *all* sectors of the workforce. It’s because the state pays people a lot of money to take care of children, allowing women to split their time between careers during the day and child-rearing during the evening. They also provide “paternity leave”, and make sure there are incentives for fathers and mothers to share their time off with their children. Voila, all those girls who got better marks than you throughout your entire education actually get to contribute to society.
Something tells me that if women were permitted to have as much power as men, there would be less need for them to go into porn in the first place. This may be a leap, but is it a coincidence that the porn industry is based in the United States, the country with the least labour protections for women in the Western world?

No, you’re thinking of Central Europe. In fact, it sounds like you’re thinking of Germany. But Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland all have self-replacing populations. This is because women do not have to choose between their careers and having children.
Germany, on the other hand, has a much more conservative attitude toward state-provided child care, and in fact incentivizes women staying home through subsidies for each extra child. Also, Germany does not provide all-day childcare for children 3 and up or any childcare for children from infancy to age 3. This is why Germany, France, Italy, Spain and most of their neighbours have falling populations: Women don’t want to give up their careers, and even moreso, they don’t want to be forced to shoulder the entire burden of raising a family.
That’s why the Western European welfare model is referred to as the “Corporate-Conservative” model, regardless of retarded Americans calling it “socialist”. The Scandinavian model, on the other hand, is called “Social-democratic”. Those are the official terms used by welfare policy analysts. So don’t get Germany mixed up with Northern Europe; they have totally different systems.

I’ve got to call bullshit on that stat of more men being raped than women. The Bureau of Justice Statistics estimates about 182,000 women were raped in 2008. Similarly, the DOJ has a high-end estimate that about 4 percent of prisoners in America had been raped or sexually assaulted while in prison. There’s about 2.3 million people incarcerated in the United States. Do the math and you get 92,000 prison rapes a year. You’d need about 8 percent of all prisoners getting raped every year to come up with similar stats, which is higher than any study has shown.

Men notoriously under report incidences of rape. Some men are raped by women and receive shit from their peers for calling it “rape”.
