You see, back in the 1970s we were quite literally terrorized by French Canadian separatists. They bombed some buildings, killed an English guy, kidnapped a politician, and put the whole country into a State of Emergency. Canadians are not known for their ability to handle confrontation so they buckled at the knees and decided to do whatever they could to appease these self proclaimed “Niggers of Canada” (this is an actual quote the French Separatists said about themselves).
So, when a rebellious and cool Frenchman named Pierre Trudeau ran for Prime Minister in 1980, “Trudeaumania” began and everyone excitedly jumped on the “Hope” and “Change” bandwagon. They (we) figured this would finally appease the French and stop them attacking us all the time. The guy even looked like a frog!
Guess what happened: Being inexperienced and somewhat anti-status quo he threw piles and piles of cash at every problem we had. We subsequently went deeper into debt than at any point in history. As far as the French being appeased, they actually became more demanding and before you knew it, millions was being spent ensuring every Canadian, from Vancouver to Halifax, was fluently bilingual. That’s like insisting lumberjacks in Washington State speak Spanish at work.
Please don’t think I’m saying “African Americans will never be satisfied.” That implies we Canadians see them as complainers or spoiled brats. We don’t. It’s the Alarmists who will never be satisfied. The Al Sharptons of the world.
Anyway, just thought you’d like to hear what’s going to happen to you for the next four years. I know it’s exciting to hear about change and you think things will be different but don’t get your hopes up.

Trudeau was Prime Minister previous from 1968-1979 then again from 1980-84. He changed the face of Canada.

Trudeau Mania was in the 60s and 70s. he was asked out of retirement to help draft Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms (similar to the bill of rights) which was then signed into law by England’s Queen ERII thus making Canada a completely independent nation. He championed human rights, freedom of speech and all the other things that make our country great.

Trudeau won his first mandate in 19…68. 1980 was when he won it back from Joe Clark or some such irrelevant thing.
