I know we’ve totally been on these guys’ dicks, what with the radio show and having their hype man Dap write for the blog and all, but seriously, check out Das Racist’s mixtape, “Shut Up, Dude.”

I know we’ve totally been on these guys’ dicks, what with the radio show and having their hype man Dap write for the blog and all, but seriously, check out Das Racist’s mixtape, “Shut Up, Dude.” It’s like a week old, which is years in Internet time, but we can’t stop listening to it.

DOWNLOAD “Shut Up, Dude” HERE

P.S. OK guys, we realize this technically isn’t a mixtape as it’s all DR songs, but that’s what they’re calling it, so … tough.

This may be a silly question, but if a “mixtape” is made up of songs all by one band, isn’t it really more like a compilation?

  2. esther says:

there’s only an image in the zip file

  3. Cpt. Obvious says:

    agreed…how is this a “mixtape”?

  4. HOMO says:

I like those new Silver Cannibal Shoe Bicycle remixes by Lightning Applejuice Bear Heart. also, when DJ Lamp Popsicle Rue Pepper did that mashup of Lazer Coke’s “I am terrible beep beep plop” and Neon Jungle Hat’s “tim tam pam pam mam” I danced my American Apparel dress tee all the way off.

this “mixtape” is the best thing to happen to music since the Ting Tings DJ set at the Nokia party at sxsw for Levi’s and Colt 45.

I saw some tattooed man at a restaurant the other night, he was very clean and was wearing a cute little fedora, everything he was wearing was american apparel, even had the ray bans.. anyways, he had a million brand new tattoos, most of them traditional japanese (he was whiter than college ruled paper) but the top of his whole hand was fire truck red, except for the giant cassette tape.. I was thinking “man, in a few years, nobody will know what the hell that thing is, I mean, cd’s are pretty much on the way out.. so yeah, he got a cassette covering his whole hand (over the red from the rising sun)” but now that I see people are still trading tapes (even though even the artwork is vinyl/cd shaped) I guess his “ink” is timeless after all.. I bet he plays in a band called “Ghost Ambulance” or “Lightning Ice Cream”. mixtapes forever.

  8. Maxwel says:

  12. no.thanks. says:

lets go to okayplayer were you can call everybody a faggot all you want.

  13. Pudege says:

It was pretty good. And yeah, these motherfuckers on this board have no clue what a mixtape is. Black folks still have something foreign to whitey, what a surprise, I’ll enjoy it for the next few minutes.

  14. HOMO says:

hey Pudege, show me where the TAPE part is and we’ll go together.. maybe I’ll even buy you a corsage!

  15. Curds says:

nevermind giving a shit about hiphop, do you people have the internet? this http://chamillionaire.com/assets/mixtape-messiah-3.jpg is the fifth google image result for mixtape, punks.

  16. Wikipedia Brown says:

    Dead post, but:

Mixtapes are now commonly used by labels and new artists as a promotional tool, as a way of generating hype.[7] An unsigned artist might release several mixtapes to generate buzz, leading to interest from record labels, while a signed artist may release a mixtape to promote a future studio album, in a sales model relying on word of mouth to increase the artist’s credibility (known as “street cred”). Often each track on a promotional hip hop mixtape will feature the same artist, thus making it more difficult to differentiate from a standard album. However, these mixtapes will usually have much lower production values than a studio album (such as housing “demo”[clarification needed] or roughly mixed versions of the tracks), and contain numerous collaborations, remixes, freestyles and voice-overs, often arranged in a specific flowing fashion.
