A friendly PSA from out west in Tempe, AZ: in 97.3% of the cities in this country that aren’t NY, no one has ever heard of Bad Brains. The citizenry here in the hinterland look kindly upon the wearing of hooded clothing, as the hood provides protection for your head regardless of your age. Out here it’s “Ay, Tex! Thum two words both start with the saaaayme lettur” and we move on.

I’m 28. I think this is a good question. I feel as if with hoodies, if you’re a guy, after you’re 30, you need to get an actual structured jacket (even if it’s from the thrift store!), & stop wearing a goddamn hoodie everywhere you go. You don’t look like a youthful, dynamic college student anymore, you just look like a slob. It would be better if you could make this switch even earlier than 30! If you’re a woman, you should probably change over to cardigans/light jackets around the same age.

Obviously it’s okay to HAVE them, like to walk the dog in or whatever. But it does seem kind of needy to go to a party or something wearing a hoodie with a cool album cover that all cool people think are cool. Like you’re a big ol’ insecure indie rocker, just waiting for someone to walk up & say “OMG, do YOU love Bad Brains, TOO?!”
