When listening to the album Straight Outta Compton, two things become abundantly clear: 1) NWA consider themselves to be fearless criminals who deserve to be locked up and 2) the police are always hassling them for no reason.

When listening to the album Straight Outta Compton, two things become abundantly clear: 1) NWA considers themselves to be fearless criminals who deserve to be locked up and 2) the police are always hassling them for no reason.

In the song “Fuck the Police” we hear a bizarre trial where NWA hire their producer as the judge and three other members as prosecuting attorneys. They win the case despite totally incriminating themselves and the cops are sent to jail (where they most likely will be killed). Let’s have a closer look at this fucked up incident.

DRE (Judge)
Dr Dre is the judge? Double You Tee Eff? A high school dropout with no law experience whatsoever is deciding whether HIS GANG should go to jail. The prosecuting attorneys are no other than Eazy E, Ice Cube and MC Ren. Guess how many times he tells them to stop swearing or going off at wild tangents (here’s a clue: he never does).

EAZY E (Prosecuting Attorney)
The squeaky voice with AIDS gives his testimony first. He says he’s sick of being fucked with by the cops and would actually like to fight one of them unarmed. When he’s done they will have to “bring the yellow tape” because the cop will have been murdered.
At the end of the song, Eazy says “Huh?” when he’s busted and tries to guess why law enforcement would have a problem with him. Eventually he comes up with a theory, “Maybe it’s because I kick so much …ass … because the police always got something stupid to say.” He also proudly calls NWA a gang a bunch of times throughout the album with is racketeering and carries its own charges.

ICE CUBE (Prosecuting Attorney)
Another gang member set on killing cops is Ice Cube. In his first verse he starts out with  “Just because I’m from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me” but in the NEXT LINE he confesses to being, “A young nigga on a warpath / And when I’m finished, it’s gonna be a bloodbath / Of cops, dyin in LA.” It’s not Cube’s hometown that’s making cops uncomfortable, it’s that he’s on a cop killing warpath, doye.
This is a guy, by the way, who said in the song “Straight Outta Compton,” “The police are gonna have to come get me.” Then he gets mad because the police came and got him? He has a fucking crime record “like Charles Manson.” What are they supposed to do? In “Gangsta Gangsta” Cube tells the world he, “Never should have been let out the penitentiary” but goes ballistic when it looks like he might go back to jail. To quote Eazy, “Huh?”

MC REN (Prosecuting Attorney)
Ren makes it clear he has illegal guns and their only purpose is to kill cops. Ren suggests cops drop their weapons and go toe to toe but then he admits he will cheat and blow the officer’s head off. This is in a court room by the way. As Ren says this, the officer looks to the judge in a “Hello?” kind of way and Dre just laughs.
Also, MC Ren calls himself a villain about 80 times on the album and in “Gangsta Gangsta” he admits him and the rest of NWA randomly shot club patrons – just – because.

At the end of this kangaroo court, the police officers are taken away yelling perfectly reasonable things like “I want justice.” One does eventually say, “Fuck you, you black motherfucker” but it’s worth noting he didn’t use the N word and dude was being sent to jail for harassing cop murderers. This trial was a complete fiasco from the start. Now, I’m not saying NWA have to stop being proud of murder and drugs and stuff but you can’t fucking complain about being hassled if you are out picking fights with law enforcement. Right?

  1. FUCK THE POLICE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? FUCK THE FIREMEN

  1. Josh Birkhead-Kirk says:

The best part is when the cops hassle Ren for no other reason than killing some guy while “Playin’ with the trigger of an A-K”. Don’t the LAPD have anything better to do? Like handing out tickets to the real criminals that park in towaway zones?

  2. Eli says:

Please stop getting white women to review rap albums, anybody remember Lizz Mendez Berry?

  3. DDay says:

to the author: are you retarded, is that your problem?

  4. Cap'N Glitterfuzz says:

I second that, this shit smells.

Getting analytical on NWA? Why another delusional hip-hip-hopistorian who jumbles the facts like mommy the mechanic? Go convert another Biggie t-shirt into a sleeveless tunic.

  5. hHALLO says:

does neither DDay nor Eli get this piece
you seem to miss the its, not so subtle, slant

  6. heed says:

i think you should dumb down your humor for the hip hop fans. got any fart jokes?

  7. todd says:

this was dumb and pointless. i know the album, no need to reiterate

  8. pedro.martinez says:

Hey is Downtown Owl any good?

  9. Mron says:

well I fucking laughed my ass off..

  10. wow this is the most stupid shit i have seen in long time, and i work with special needs kids.

  11. Fredo says:

Let’s set it straight: Ice Cube was the one who said “Bring the yellow tape.”

Otherwise, this article makes perfect sense. What’s retarded is to brag incessantly about murdering people and then complain about police harassment.

  12. Fredo says:

    “That’s some dumb shit.”

    “That’s some really dumb shit.’

    “That shit is dumb.”

    “What’s dumb is that shit.”

“If you want dumb shit, that’s it.”

You want some real dumb shit? I mean, some shit that makes no sense at all?

How about Eazy-E bitching about police harassment and then supporting one of the cops who beat Rodney King? How’s that for some dumb shit?

    http://www.eazy-e.info/bio.html

Oh, wait…he supported the only nonwhite* cop who beat Rodney King, so I’m sure, in some retarded way, it makes more sense to you.

Or how about Eazy-E telling all the girls, “I wanna fuck you, too!” on “Gangsta, Gangsta” and then getting AIDS? That’s some real dumb shit on the fo-reals tip!

*(Even though almost all major media made a point of calling all the cops who beat Rodney King “white.”)

  13. Terri says:

Hey, you had me laughing. I guess the only people qualified to take a jab at rap music are black men, since “white women” shouldn’t review rap.

  14. sensible says:

That was very funny. To the people who said it was “dumb” or “smelly” or that the author might be “retarded,” did you maybe not get it? Are those special needs kids you work with your classmates?

  15. OBH says:

    Kangaroo court=comic genius

  16. georgieboi says:

why haven’t those guys killed any cops as of yet. well, they’re recording artists, that’s their stick get it? the author attempts to write a comedic piece but …F A I L

  17. Shitti Politti says:

I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must be to write a piece, and then read responses from people who are angry or didn’t like it simply BECAUSE they are stupid. What can be done about something like that? Wouldn’t you assume Street Carnage readers are, on average, more clever or capable of understanding complex irony than most people? And yet you still have to deal with people who lash out ONLY because they are just not very smart. It sucks trying to explain/argue/describe with these people around. Music, TV shows like Dr. Katz, anything good. You get some.

    “This shit is so stupid.”

It’s like well…come on man. You CLEARLY are angry/bored/offended/unimpressed because you do not understand. Because you are stupider than people who understand things.

  18. motherfuck'n yeaah says:

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhaaaha

  19. Tampax Dave says:

If some stupid white heavy-metal or punk band had postured about being ruthless, cold-blooded murderers as heavily as NWA did on “Straight Outta Compton” while simultaneously whimpering that the cops wouldn’t leave them alone, odds seem pretty good that most of the “This shit is stupid” wigger Humpty Dumpties would be calling this article brilliant.

The white-guilt brainwashing has reached the level where people feel they need to protect an extreme cartoon such as NWA. These Niggaz only have Attitudez because you let them, you stupid fucks.

  20. Lepke says:

this article is not complex beyond the understanding of the nay-sayers. it just sucks. and isnt funny.

  21. tommy gun says:

everyone commenting this is pretty much an idiot.

    this is hilarious.

  22. badini says:

yeah i thought this was funny and good. i liked it. i have a sense of humour. i like NWA too. i think theyre good. i like listening to them by myself or with friends. Im a white person. I also like cartoons.
    and I liked this article.

  23. Jim Goad says:

Again, “Tommy”—if that is your real name—you’re wrong.

Further evidence of NWA’s duplicity, double-dealing, and shameless, outright hypocrisy:

In the song “Express Yourself” on “Straight Outta Compton,” Dr. Dre raps that he “don’t smoke weed or sinse, ’cause that’s known to give a brother brain damage,” then he does a whole album devoted to “The Chronic” and dedicates every other line in every other song for the rest of his career to smoking weed and sinse every day.

Shameless. Distasteful. Horrifying, really. A threat to the very fabric of our civilization. Yet you allow his blackness to act as a sort of cocoa-buttery sunscreen that protects him from such undeniably true accusations.

  24. [...] bike messenger that almost cut you off like, “Do you have any CLUE who you’re fucking with?” However, as was pointed out in this “Fuck the Police” post that gave NWA shit for being babies, there is a lot of gay shit about rap that kind of ruins it for the rest of [...]

  25. Badman says:

@ the author: So much almost-but-not-quite-clever-and-funny humor, wasted because you missed the fucking point. If you’re going to analyze NWA lyrics, at least do so in context. The “gangster” persona is just that – a persona. Eazy-E was a former drug dealer, but none of the other members actually had criminal records. Obviously, Ice Cube hasn’t actually gone around killing cops or randomly shooting club patrons. It’s just “expression”. The police racism and brutality they talk about, however, are quite real.

    @ Cap’N Glitterfuzz: Fuck you.

@ Tampax Dave: fitting name for a shit-flinging white knight. You could stand to learn from NWA – at least they’re good at posturing.

@ Jim Goad: Straight Outta Compton was released in 1988, The Chronic in 1992. Maybe he just changed his mind about weed at some point during those 4 years? He probably found out that weed, in fact, does not cause “brain damage”. Pretty sure that’s not the point of the song, anyway.
